If you’re like me, you’ve probably never heard of or seen a real life EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) expert.
In our minds, they seem like those larger than life characters you see in foreign action movies like Rambo or the Terminator or Iron Man.

And less like the caricatures portrayed in Nollywood films.

Well, turns out that we have one very close to home.
Meet Edward Ezekiel Onoriode, the real life EOD expert. And he takes his job seriously. If there ever is a high-budget Nollywood version of Mission Impossible, he’d fit right in.

The police officer, who is an indigene of Isoko in Delta state, was born and spent his formative years in Lagos. He is a graduate of Lagos State University, where he studied Economics while in active service.
He is presently serving in Lagos; and has been deployed to different parts of the country and even under the United Nations on foreign missions in the past.
He loves to read and write and is married with two beautiful girls.
Onoriode was always asked by his Facebook friends if his job is really his job when they see his job profile on Facebook. So he gave his answer.
His university colleagues often wonder why he would waste his looks and youth on a career such as this. In his own words, “I’m proud to be a “EOD” officer.”

We need more patriotic Nigerians like Mr Onoride. They are a dime a dozen these days.

We salute you.
